PEKIN, Ill. – A teenager has been charged in a hit-and-run crash in Pekin last week that killed two people.
Jonathan Qualls, 17, of Pekin was arrested Friday by Pekin Police.
Qualls is accused of striking two people on a motorized moped with a stolen vehicle on June 15th.
Justin Barnhart, 47, and Christina Kolesar, 35, — both of Pekin — died as a result of the crash.
25 News reports that Qualls confessed to witnesses that he had done something “really bad” and wrecked the vehicle.
Tazewell County prosecutors are trying Qualls as an adult on two counts of Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Accident involving Death, Unlawful Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, and two counts of Aggravated Reckless Driving.
His bond has been set at $300,000, and will be arraigned July 13.
