WASHINGTON, Ill. – Local police will be out in force Tuesday night for National Night Out Against Crime.
Officer Dramaine Taylor, with Washington Police, tells WMBD’s “The Greg and Dan Show”, the sole purpose of the event is to bring officers and the community together.
“It helps us form partnerships to fight crime. Anything that we can do, that puts us right in front (of the community), so if they have questions or suggestions, maybe we can help out,” Taylor says.
National Night Out is always the first Tuesday in August. This year in Peoria, it serves as an official end to summer, as kids at Peoria Public Schools go back to class on Wednesday.
Expect to see plenty of neighborhood block parties, as neighbors turn on their porch lights and come outside to get to know each other and police officers better.
“It’s really to let the criminals know we have our eyes on you. And, we’re watching you to keep our communities safe,” Taylor says.
Washington Police are putting on a block party Tuesday night at Oak Ridge Park (on Cummings Lane) from 5:30-8:30, with fun activities including bouncy houses for the kids and a magician to entertain everyone.
