PEORIA, Ill. – Other movie theaters are apparently still able to show movies, but one local theater may be blaming a closure on the ongoing writers’ strike.
Sources are telling 25 News that the closure of Landmark Cinemas is being blamed on the strike of motion picture writers ongoing by the Writers Guild of America.
WMBD Radio News tried to contact Landmark and its owners, Peoria Forest Hill Development Company, and have not received a response.
The last day of operation at the cinema was Sunday, with no future movie theater showtimes listed on their website.
The Journal Star cited a former employee as confirming the closure, and Peoria City Council District 2 member Chuck Grayeb as not having a full grasp on what’s going on.
The owners tried to find a buyer for the whole Landmark Recreation Complex last year, while claiming operations would go on as normal.
