CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Drought is decreasing in central Illinois after relief from recent rains and cooler temperatures in the past week.
The latest U.S. Drought Monitor report released Thursday shows all of Peoria and Woodford Counties at an “abnormally dry” level. Last week, both counties were at a moderate drought level.
Only 7.5% of Tazewell County is at a moderate drought level, mainly in the southern portion of the county. The rest is “abnormally dry” after the entire county was at a moderate level the week prior.
Fulton County is still experiencing moderate drought in the northern and southern thirds of the county, with 54.91% of the county experiencing those levels this week. Last week, the county was entirely in moderate drought conditions.
Drought is also decreasing significantly across Illinois. Only 1.9% of the state is at a severe drought level, mainly in the west-central portion, after 12.79% was at that level last week. Moderate drought levels dropped from 57.95% of the state to 27.35%. 85.43% is “abnormally dry,” down from 95.15% the week before.
