PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria Police say they have someone in custody in connection with the city’s 13th homicide of the year, which occurred over the weekend. This, as the Peoria County Coroner identifies the victim in the case.
Police said Monday that later in the day Saturday, they arrested Lovell Eggleston, 34.
Eggleston – who police say was seen at the scene prior to 4:00 a.m. that day in the area of Arcadia and Thrush Streets – is charged with Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, and Possession of a Weapon by a Felon.
Coroner Jamie Harwood says Maurice Young, 42, died from a gunshot wound to the chest.
Police say the investigation into the homicide continues.
Jail records indicate Eggleston has been arrested dozens of times since 2006. He’s jailed on $150,000 bond.
Eggleston, according to court records, was found not guilty of murder in 2021, in connection with the December 26, 2018 death of Jerrimic Booker, 43, shot at a Spring Street address.
