PEORIA, Ill. – The juvenile arrested earlier this week for Peoria’s 17th homicide of the year will be charged and tried as an adult.
Peoria County State’s Attorney Jodi Hoos says she’s charged Jared Williams, 17, with First-Degree Murder, and he’s currently being held in juvenile custody on $1.5 million bond.
Williams was arrested Monday night in Normal.
Hoos says surveillance video from Laramie Liquors showing a man later identified as Williams getting out of a vehicle unprovoked, approaching Mason Loy, 21, and firing at him several times before being seen fleeing at the scene.
Loy was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident Saturday night.
Hoos says a gun recovered from the apartment searched in Normal matched shell casings from the crime scene.
Williams is scheduled to be arraigned September 28.
