PEORIA, Ill. – An East Peoria man who originally was arrested on dozens of charges in connection with cases of animal abuse discovered at a Princeville home, and who later only faced one count, now has been indicted by a grand jury.
A Peoria County grand jury Tuesday formally charged Stephen Kalb, 41, with a felony count of Aggravated Cruelty to Animals.
A number of dogs were found inside a home and in a shed in Princeville back in May, owned by his girlfriend, Stacy Mueller, 41.
Mueller, who also faces several misdemeanor counts in addition to a felony, could go to trial next month.
Kalb wasn’t arrested until late-July, having left the state for a time. He’s out of jail, but is scheduled to be arraigned November first.
In both cases, the Peoria County State’s Attorney opted not to file all the charges Sheriffs Deputies arrested them on.
