EAST PEORIA, Ill. – The time lost on the construction of the new McClugage Bridge after a crane caught fire will be able to be made up.
That’s according to Illinois Department of Transportation spokesperson Paul Wappel, who tells WMBD News three weeks of time was lost after the accident that happened outside of working hours August 22nd, causing millions of dollars in damage to the crane.
Wappel says, though, the time lost should easily be made up, and that the construction is still on track to be complete during parts of 2024 and 2025.
No one was hurt in the mishap. Part of the crane, which was on a barge next to the bridge, collapsed in to the Illinois River. That was expected to be removed from the water so normal barge traffic could resume.
