EAST PEORIA, Ill. – You’ll need to have a lighter load now on the Cedar Street Bridge.
The Illinois Department of Transportation says load limits reductions are in place, effective Friday, for the bridge that carries Illinois Routes 18 and 116 over the Illinois River.
Single unit vehicles are limited to 20 tons, with combination vehicles at a limit of 34 tons. Trucks that exceed those limits must use an alternate route to cover the river.
The limits are in place because of corrosion of the structural steel found during an inspection this year. Emergency repairs are planned to reinforce the steel, with more extensive repairs planned for 2025 or 2026 as part of IDOT’s Multi-Year Program.
