PEORIA, Ill. – Two people were arrested from the weekend after multiple police chases throughout Peoria.
Peoria Police says officers attempted to stop a vehicle in the area of Nebraska and Knoxville, but the driver fled away at a high rate of speed.
The vehicle was found a short time later in the area of Perry and Abington, but fled away at a high rate of speed when officers approached.
The vehicle was then found in the 3500-block of Monroe, with 24-year-old Cortez S. Aguirre exiting the vehicle and fleeing on foot. The vehicle also left the area at a high rate of speed.
Aguirre was taken into custody after a brief foot chase, with officers reportedly finding a handgun with an extended magazine on him.
Officers then responded to the area of Morton Square Park on reports of a trouble with a male that was armed with a gun.
The fleeing vehicle was found in the area with the driver, 22-year-old Omar Denova, reportedly making motions of pointing a weapon at the officer’s vehicle, before fleeing at a high rate of speed.
The vehicle was then found abandoned a short time later at Grand and War Memorial Drive, with three people observed fleeing from the vehicle.
Officers didn’t find anything in a search of the area.
Just before 2:30 P.M. Sunday, officers located a different vehicle connected to Denova in the area of NE Monroe and Beacon, and found four people inside with Denova as the driver.
Denova was taken into custody after being removed from the vehicle.
He was arrested on charges of Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding, Aggravated Assault of a Peace Officer, Aggravated Battery to a Peace Officer, Obstructing Police, and Theft. Aguirre was arrested on charges of Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Resisting Police.
Both Denova and Aguirre were taken to the Peoria County Jail.
