SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Gypsy Rose Blanchard was released from prison Thursday – three years early. Her case drew tabloid attention and documentaries.
Blanchard had been serving a ten year prison sentence in Missouri after pleading guilty to Second Degree Murder for the death of her mom, Dee Dee.
According to FOX News, Blanchard’s mother forced her to pretend she was suffering from things like leukemia, muscular dystrophy, and other illnesses, holding her daughter prisoner and subjecting her to treatments she didn’t need.
It turned out Gypsy, now 32, was perfectly healthy. Her mother, though, suffered from Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy, where caregivers fabricate illnesses for sympathy.
Gypsy’s online boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, was convicted of stabbing Dee Dee to death in 2015, while Gypsy says she hid in the bathroom, after the two reportedly devised a murder plan. FOX News reports Godejohn is serving a life sentence.
Meanwhile, Gypsy got married while in prison, and her husband bought her tickets to a Kansas City Chiefs game on New Years Eve.
Blanchard told TMZ she hopes to meet Taylor Swift.
Gypsy’s case was the subject of the HBO documentary “Mommy Dead and Dearest,” and the Hulu series “The Act.”
