PEORIA, Ill. – An audit of the finances of public television station WTVP is expected to begin next month.
That’s according to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which is withholding its annual allotment until the audit by its Inspector General is complete.
The audit comes as an investigation into misuse of the station’s finances by late former CEO Lesley Matuszak, and ousted former finance chief Lin McLaughlin.
They’re accused of making what the station has referred to as “questionable” money decisions prior to Matuszak’s death.
“Last week, CPB’s Office of Inspector General notified WTVP-TV that it will begin in March an audit of grants provided by CPB to WTVP from July 1, 2020, through June 30, 2023. CPB will not decide on the release of WTVP’s fiscal year 2024 Community Service Grant until the audit is completed and any related action CPB requires of the station is completed,” said a CPB statement.
This news comes as the WTVP board met Tuesday and introduced yet more new board members, including former CEO Chet Tomczak, and 2023 Miss Illinois Jessica Tilton, among others.
