NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State University Board of Trustees has officially voted to hire its next president.
The university says its board gave a four-year contract to Dr. Aondover Tarhule in voting for the hiring at a special meeting Monday. His hiring was announced ten days ago.
The native of Nigeria has been the college’s interim president for the past year after Terry Goss Kinzy resigned, and was Vice President of Academic Affairs before that.
ISU board chairperson Dr. Kathy Bohn says a national search was conducted which brought out what she called a cross-section of candidates for the job.
“The Board of Trustees determined that not only is Dr. Tarhule known to our campus community, but his strategic and visionary perspective helped him stand out in a very competitive field of candidates,” said Bohn, in a news release. “He is an approachable leader who brings a high level of integrity, knowledge, and thought to conversations that will continue our institution’s 167-year legacy well into the future.”
A number of candidates were brought to campus for interviews.
Bohn says Tarhule has “earned our trust.”
