PEORIA, Ill. – A man was arrested Monday morning after allegedly pointing a gun at a Peoria Police officer.
Peoria Police say they attempted to stop a vehicle at Starr and Western just before 5:00 A.M., driven by Brian Childers, 45, but he sped away.
The vehicle was found a short time later by officers at Western and Howett, where Childers refused to exit the vehicle. As officers approached the vehicle, Childers reportedly pointed a handgun at an officer, then fled away at a high rate of speed.
Investigators then learned Childers was in East Peoria, and took him into custody there. Officers reportedly found illegal drugs and a weapon on him during a search.
Childers was arrested on charges of Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer, Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Obstructing/Resisting Police, Armed Violence, Possession of Methamphetamine, and numerous traffic charges.
He was taken to the Peoria County Jail.
