WEST PEORIA, Ill. – West Peoria voters in Tuesday’s primary election approved two property tax levy increases.
One ups what property owners will pay for the Fire Protection District, from 0.30% to 0.40% .
The other establishes a tax levy for the creation of an ambulance service at a rate not to exceed 0.40%.
Both measures were approved by roughly 80 percent of those casting ballots.
West Peoria Fire officials previously told 25 News the ambulance levy will create a full-time department, and the other will help significantly reduce response times for first responders.
Officials say both will lead to better protection for the village.
