DUNLAP, Ill. – We’re learning more about Tuesday’s incident at Dunlap Valley Middle School where a gun was allegedly found.
Peoria County State’s Attorney Jodi Hoos says a 13-year-old boy has been formally charged with Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Possession of a Stolen Firearm, and Burglary.
The teen’s name can’t be released, as he’s a juvenile, and it appears the case will not be tried in adult court.
After students told a principal Tuesday they had heard that the boy brought the gun to school, it was found in a backpack inside a locker.
Hoos says the teen admitted to stealing the gun and a magazine, reported as such from a Peoria vehicle earlier this month, he showed pictures of the gun to another student, and it was at least the third time the gun had been brought to school.
The teen remains in juvenile custody. Officials say there was no plan to commit a school shooting, and no one was targeted.
