WEST PEORIA, Ill. – Multiple explosions destroyed a West Peoria home early Sunday morning, but the fire chief says an exact cause hasn’t been determined because crews had to demolish the home for safety reasons.
West Peoria Fire Chief Terry Schadt says firefighters were called to the home around 4:45 a.m., after a resident and a neighbor reported “multiple explosions” from the home on Martin Luther King Drive.
The chief tells 25 News, the home was fully involved in flames when he arrived. Two family members and a visitor to the home made it out safely, Schadt says.
Schadt is calling the fire accidental, but says investigators couldn’t be sure of an exact cause because the home had to be torn down immediately.
Two neighboring homes were reportedly damaged, one sustaining $20,000 damage and other about $5,000 damage.
The West Peoria Fire Department was assisted by firefighters from Bartonville, Limestone, Peoria, Peoria Heights, Logan-Trivoli and Timber Hollis.
