CANTON, Ill. – A grocery store in Canton remains closed Monday morning after an Easter Sunday fire.
In a Facebook post, the Canton Hy-Vee says it hopes to resume normal business hours “in the next day or so.”
Canton Fire says crews were called just after 11:20 A.M. to the store on the 800-block of N. Main St. on reports of a fire in the back of the store.
Firefighters found the fire in an upstairs storage room with smoke and flames showing. Canton Fire says it was put out in about 12 minutes and contained to the storage room, with the store’s sprinkler system helping limit the fire before fire crews arrived.
The amount of damage to the building and the store’s contents are still being evaluated, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
