EAST PEORIA, Ill. – East Peoria’s City Council voted unanimously Tuesday night to approve a $122 million budget for fiscal year 2025.
Some of the largest appropriated expenses in that budget are for the police and fire departments, totaling more than $23 million and nearly $9 million, according to 25 News.
The funds come, in part, from special tax levies and cover salaries and maintenance costs of both departments, among other things. Both pension funds are allocated roughly $2.5 million each.
Other departments funded through special tax levies include garbage collection and disposal, streets and bridges, the EastSide Centre and the East Peoria Marina.
Council approved $18 million for sewer and water departments and maintenance, funded through sewer and water fee revenues.
In fiscal year 2025, East Peoria city departments will have nearly $12 million in expenses, using revenue generated from general corporate taxes and revenue.
A resolution approving the salaries, wages, and benefits of East Peoria city employees was discussed, but is subject to a week of public inspection before it can be voted on.
