UPDATED 3:52 P.M.
PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria Police had to track down a man who escaped from one of its transport vans Wednesday night.
Police say 32-year-old Daniel Moody was being transported to the Peoria County Jail just after 8:30 P.M.
Moody was in custody after a reported Aggravated Domestic Battery incident.
Police say an alarm sounded to indicate the rear door of the van was opened in the area of Main and Parkside, and that Moody had escaped.
Moody was taken back into custody just after 8:45 P.M. in the area of Cooper and Laura, and taken to the county jail.
Peoria Police say Moody was able to move his cuffed hands to the front, and was left that way by officers because he was reportedly combative and uncooperative.
He was then able to unlock the first of two secure doors in the van keeping him in place, then unlocked the exterior door and jumped from the van while it was moving.
Police say an exterior door mechanism that prevents the doors from being unlocked from the inside was not installed, but has since been installed on all transport vans.
