NORMAL, Ill. — Rivian Automotive has rolled its 100,000th vehicle off the production line in Normal, Illinois.
The news comes just days after the electric vehicle maker announced nearly 14,000 EVs were produced in the first quarter of 2024 and over 13,500 had been delivered.
Rivian purchased the plant in Normal, left vacant by Mitsubishi, in 2017. The EV maker produced its first commercial vehicle there in late 2021.
Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe on Tuesday said the company had beat first quarter expectations, but still planned a shutdown at the end of the month to upgrade production efficiency with new technology.
Rivian is reportedly on track to make 57,000 vehicles in Normal this year, roughly the same number as in 2023.
About 8,000 people work at Rivian in Normal.
