PEORIA, Ill. – A man has been arrested after reportedly assaulting and injuring a Peoria Police officer Friday morning.
The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office says 33-year-old Eric Anderson has been charged with Aggravated Battery on a Police Officer.
Jail records indicate Anderson is homeless.
The state’s attorney’s office says at around 7:45 A.M., officers responded to the Becker Building in downtown Peoria of a man who was sleeping there and refused to leave.
A warrant had been issued for Anderson’s arrest, and Anderson allegedly lunged towards one of the officers upon hearing about the warrant.
Anderson then reportedly punched the officer in the face multiple times and knocked him to the ground, causing multiple eye fractures and to be covered in blood from a significant cut under the officer’s eye.
The state’s attorney’s office says a petition to detain Anderson was granted, and he will stay in jail until his trial.
