PEORIA, Ill. – A man was taken to a local hospital in serious but stable condition after a hit-and-run incident early Sunday morning in downtown Peoria.
Peoria Police say a vehicle was seen driving at a high rate of speed just after 2:30 A.M. at Hamilton and Perry, but did not pursue it because of the high-rate of speed.
Moments later, officers responded to Monroe and Main on report of a hit-and-run involving the vehicle, finding an adult male down in the roadway.
The reported vehicle involved was identified with the help of a License Plate Reader, and later found in the Royal Oaks Estates complex on West Manchester.
The driver, 36-year-old Derek Dawson, was taken into custody and arrested on multiple charges. The charges include Failure to Report an Accident, DUI, Failure to Render Aid, Operating an Uninsured Vehicle, Driving on a Suspended License, Illegal Transportation of Alcohol, and Leaving the Scene of an Accident.
Dawson was taken to the Peoria County Jail.
