TAZEWELL COUNTY, Ill. – A man from rural Morton whose son shot and killed four people at a Nashville Waffle House in 2018 has had his sentence upheld.
Jeffrey Reinking was sentenced to 18 months in prison for providing the rifle that Travis Reinking used in the shooting.
He was convicted in 2022 of knowingly giving a weapon to Travis, who was struggling with psychotic mental illness. The defense argued that Jeffrey was unaware of Travis’ mental health issues.
Travis was sentenced in 2022 to four life sentences
In his appeal to an appellate court, Jeffrey argued the trial court erred by denying his pretrial motion to dismiss the indictment.
He also argued the court denied his motion for a directed finding at the close of the state’s case, finding him guilty at the close of trial, and rejecting his post-trial claim of ineffective assistance of counsel.
