CHICAGO, Ill. – It’s been nearly two years since a gunman attacked the crowds watching a Fourth of July parade in Highland Park, Illinois.
23-year-old Robert Crimo III is accused of killing seven people and wounding dozens others at the holiday parade in 2022. He’s scheduled to go on trial in February.
At a brief hearing on Wednesday, prosecutors and defense attorneys laid out plans to file additional motions before Crimo’s next court hearing on August 28.
Highland Park is scheduled to hold its first July 4th parade since the deadly shooting in 2022. Last year, the city held a march along the parade route instead of having a parade.
Crimp has been in custody since his arrest on the night of the shooting. He faces 117 felony counts, including three murder counts for each of the people killed.
Crimo could receive life in prison if convicted of two or more of the murder charges, according to Fox News. His trial is set for February 24, 2025.
