PEORIA, Ill. – Congressman Eric Sorensen says wants to know what will happen in Gaza, if Israel were to successfully defeat Hamas.
Sorensen (D-Moline) says the Jewish people and Israel must be supported. But there must be a plan for peace and prosperity in the area.
“We can’t just leave the people of Gaza, and the people of the West Bank, just out to dry. Because their homes are gone, their businesses are gone,” Sorensen said.
Sorensen says a plan is what he would like to hear from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during his address to Congress next month. As of Friday, Sorensen says he was undecided about attending the speech.
Sorensen says he also is hopeful the Prime Minister does some listening.
“Hopefully he listens to the diplomatic pressure from Antony Blinken and from Joe Biden, to make sure that we are moving in a direction of a ceasefire, where we can talk about peace and prosperity. Because so far, we haven’t been able to do that,” Sorensen said.
Sorensen made his comments after a presentation of $1 million in federal dollars for housing and sidewalk projects in Peoria.
