PEORIA, Ill. – A former quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys made a return trip to OSF Children’s Hospital in Peoria to help brighten patients’ days.
Tony Romo’s visit to the hospital on Wednesday is part of his time playing in the OSF Children’s Hospital of Illinois All Pro Tour golf event. This is the second year Romo is playing in the tournament and making the hospital visit.
“Just understanding, things happen in life and so many of it’s out of your control, and then just to put a smile on any child’s face, or anyone for that matter, and just be able to talk and connect, I think that’s what we’re here for,” Romo said.
Romo says he’s already reconnected with one of the patients that he visited with last year at Metamora Fields Golf Course, giving them a few gifts. He says the visits help create lasting memories for the kids at the hospital.
For the tournament itself, Romo is hoping to improve upon last year’s appearance, where he missed the cut after two rounds.
“Goal’s to win, that’s what the goal is each time,” Romo said. “Obviously I gotta play well. Probably making a cut would be a good start to achieving the first goal.”
Romo will play his first round at Metamora Fields on Wednesday, with round two on Thursday at WeaverRidge.
Romo is also the lead game analyst for the NFL on CBS, and believes the Chicago Bears are on an upward trajectory. He says the Bears have put themselves in a good spot to build depth on the team.
Romo adds that while there might be growing pains with new quarterback and number one overall pick Caleb Williams, the bar has been raised on expectations.
“Ultimately, you want to see your team going in the right direction,” Romo said. “And that’s what they are. And now it’s going to be how fast you can get the young quarterback up to speed.”
