PEORIA, Ill. – The Peoria Fire Department was called out multiple times this weekend.
This first incident was to a house in Peoria’s East Bluff, that was determined to be a total loss, on Saturday morning.
Fire crews arrived at the house in the area of Kansas and Indiana just before 4:15 A.M., finding heavy smoke and flames from the one-and-a-half story structure.
Firefighters had attempted to move through the front door, but encountered heavy smoke, high heat, and a collapsed first floor.
The fire was under control within 30 minutes by going through the extended upstairs and the roof.
Peoria Fire says the house appeared to be unoccupied.
A neighboring house suffered damage to siding due to the size of the fire.
Code enforcement determined the house must be demolished.
The cause is still under investigation, but no injuries were reported.
Arson is being blamed as the cause of a fire at a vacant house in the area of Bigelow and Arcadia on Saturday afternoon.
Crews responded just after 5:30 P.M., finding heavy fire and low visibility on the second floor of the two-story house.
The fire was under control in about 15 minutes. Crews stayed after putting the fire out to search for hot spots. Utilities lines were also shut off.
There were no injuries.
Five people needed temporary housing after a fire early Sunday morning in Peoria.
Peoria Fire crews were called just after midnight to the area of Caroline and Glendale, finding fire and smoke from an upstairs bedroom.
The fire was quickly put out.
The only person home at the time, a female occupant of the home, escaped before fire crews arrived.
A fire investigator determined the fire was unintentional.
The Red Cross was called in to assist the five people living at the home.
There were no injuries.
