PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria County grand jury has indicted three men on a felony hate crime charge related to allegedly stealing and burning pride flags last month.
21-year-old Noah Gohring, 18-year-old Nathaniel Sheppard, and 19-year-old Andrew Gohring were each also indicted Tuesday on misdemeanor charges of theft and criminal damage to property.
The incident occurred in the area of Greenwood and Main in Peoria on the evening of June 20th, where police reportedly found the remnants of a burnt multi-colored flag in the street.
Police received complaints of the flags stolen with video surveillance capturing the act.
The three were arrested in West Peoria later in the evening.
All three are due in court for arraignment hearings Wednesday morning.
