PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria man must remain in jail after allegedly shooting his girlfriend this week on charges that include attempted murder.
The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office says 35-year-old Calvin Freeman was ordered held at a detention hearing on Friday.
Freeman is charged with Attempt First-Degree Murder, Aggravated Battery with a Firearm, Aggravated Domestic Battery, and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon.
Prosecutors say police were dispatched to a local hospital early Sunday morning regarding a female with a gunshot wound to the base of her neck.
The victim reportedly suffered other injuries that include a broken clavicle, a fractured shoulder, broken ribs, and a lacerated lung.
Prosecutors say the victim identified Freeman as the shooter on Tuesday, and he was arrested the next day after a search warrant was executed at his home. A firearm that was allegedly used in the shooting was recovered by police.
