PEORIA, Ill. – For 54 years, South Side Mission has brought home-cooked meals and compassion to its neighbors in the Peoria area on Christmas Day.
The Mission’s Rich Draeger says this year they’ve seen greater need as many families continue to struggle with financial burdens and putting food on the table.
“We did about 2,700 meals on Thanksgiving. And, we’re seeing a good jump…we’re already closing in on 3,000 meals, and just wanted to get the word out that Thursday (December 18) is the last day that we can take sign ups to get a delivery meal,” Draeger says.
The meals can be delivered anywhere in the Peoria area…including East Peoria, Bartonville, Morton, Pekin, Washington and Dunlap. Sign ups are due by 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
South Side Mission is also hosting a sit-down community meal on Christmas Day.
“We’ll have freshly-cooked ham, potatoes, green beans and pie. It’s just a way for us to continue to live out our mission statement, to give back to the community that we serve,” Draeger says.
You don’t have to RSVP for the sit-down meal, just show up at South Side Mission at 1127 S. Laramie Street. They will be serving from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
To sign up for meals for yourself, your family, or someone you know, call South Side Mission at (309) 676-4606.
