PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria Police responded to a reported carjacking Wednesday night on N. Prospect Road, near E. Tripp and E. Wilson Avenue.
Police Spokesperson Semone Roth says the incident happened around 5:50 p.m. Officers made contact with the vehicle’s owner, who said it had been parked and running in a parking lot with a woman inside.
The owner said that while he was inside a business, a male suspect got into the vehicle from the driver’s side and demanded that the woman get out. When she refused, the suspect struck her face. The victim then got out of the vehicle, when a second male suspect got in on the passenger’s side. The suspects then fled the area in the vehicle.
The woman sustained minor injuries and declined medical attention at the scene.
About 30 minutes later, officers found the stolen vehicle abandoned in the 900 block of E. Wilson.
No suspect information has been released. The incident remains under investigation.
