EAST PEORIA, Ill. – A former senior living facility in East Peoria could be revived as multi-family housing.
Accolade EP Rentals received preliminary approval last week from commissioners for a special use permit to redevelop the former Accolade facility. The land is zoned for senior living, but the city code would allow for multi-family usage.
The plan calls for converting 100 former units into 50 apartments, ranging from studio to three-bedroom units. Rents are expected to be between $700 and $1600 per month.
Kim Rooney is a manager with Mathen Realty Services and represented the developer at last week’s city council meeting.
“A lot is going on in this community, from students to businesses, so we want to be able to appeal to everyone,” Rooney said.
Commissioners raised concerns about utilities and pedestrian safety at the meeting, which the developers plan to address as the project advances further.
