EAST PEORIA, Ill. (25 News) – Plans to remake a former East Peoria senior living facility into apartments won final government approval Tuesday night.
Without discussion, the East Peoria City Council approved a special use permit allowing developer Accolade EP Rentals LLC to build 50 apartments at 500 Centennial Drive, near Illinois Central College.
“The petitioner here appears to have the capacity and experience to tackle this sizable facility,” City Planning and Community Development Director Ty Livingston in a memo to the council.
According to 25 News, Livingston noted that the developer revised the plan to include fewer studios and more two-and-three-bedroom apartments. He said the change is likely to attract more families and reduce the need for additional parking.
Developers in December told the council that rent would range from $700 a month for a studio apartment, to about $1,600 a month for an apartment with three bedrooms and two bathrooms.
City officials said first tenants are expected to move in by late summer or early fall of 2026.
