EAST PEORIA, Ill. (25 News) – The Fondulac Rehabilitation & Health Care Center in East Peoria is facing serious allegations.
According to 25 News, a new report from the Illinois Department of Public Health revealed a cognitively impaired resident was sexually assaulted multiple times by another resident.
Staff witnessed the abuse, but the administrator-in-training allegedly told them to “leave it alone” and did not initiate safety measures.
In a separate incident, another cognitively impaired resident wandered two miles from the facility. The resident was found on a busy road, in the dark and cold, after a door alarm was dismissed by staff.
The rehabilitation center has been fined more than $27,000 in total.
The center’s supervisor refused to comment on the allegations.
