PEORIA, Ill. – Illinois American Water says elevated levels of lead were found in water samples at some homes in Peoria.
The company says more than 110 water samples were collected between July 1st and December 31st last year in the Peoria District, at homes that had existing lead service lines.
The utility says more than ten percent of the samples collected exceeded the action level of 15 parts per billion.
Illinois American Water says the samples showed there is no lead in the source water or water leaving its facilities.
But it says it’s taking measures to mitigate lead contamination, including additional testing, corrosion control, and lead line service and replacement.
