PEORIA, Ill. – A dangerous arctic blast will blanket central Illinois this weekend.
25 News First Alert Chief Meteorologist Brian Walder says the worst of the cold is expected to arrive Friday morning. That’s when wind chills are forecasted to be between -25 and -30, with some spots dipping as low as -35.
Walder says frostbite could occur on exposed skin in as little as 15 minutes in those conditions.
25 News has made Friday and Saturday First Alert Weather Days because of the cold. The National Weather Service issued an Extreme Cold Warning is in effect Friday morning due to the expected frigid temperatures.
Walder says Saturday morning will be a bit warmer, but still have dangerous bitter wind chills. Saturday morning’s wind chills are forecasted to be -15 to -20, with frostbite occurring in about 30 minutes.
Cold may not be the only winter weather central Illinois receives this weekend.
