WASHINGTON, Ill. – The city of Washington is holding off on a proposal for a digital billboard.
Missouri-based Robinson Outdoor LLC made a request to place the billboard on a vacant lot near Peoria Street and Eagle Avenue.
Council documents showed concerns from the city regarding attention being drawn to the billboard in an area where vehicle and pedestrian traffic is increased near three schools.
City Attorney Mark Walton explained why there was no vote on the item at Tuesday night’s meeting.
“It was fairly unanimous lack of approval for this, so we put it on the agenda just to have a formal record that were not going to be taking action to approve the ordinance,” Walton said.
Walton says the move does not preclude the city from future action on outdoor electronic billboards.
