EL PASO, Ill. – A fatal crash on Interstate 39 near El Paso has left one person dead.
The crash occurred at approximately 12:05 p.m. Thursday, when a white SUV struck the back of a semi-trailer.
Woodford County Coroner Tim Ruestman has identified the victim as 37-year-old Steven Porter of Bloomington.
The semi was traveling at a reduced speed due to an oversized load.
Porter, who was alone in his vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:55.
The accident is being investigated by the Woodford County Sheriff’s Office, Illinois State Police, and the coroner’s office.
An autopsy along with toxicology tests are pending.

Chief Deputy Dennis Tipsword said the Woodford County Sheriff’s Office was called to the scene around 12:05 p.m.
The semi was carrying an “oversized load”, and was traveling at a reduced speed when the car crashed into the back of it.
A driver of the car, the only person in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Deputies are investigating the crash with help from the Illinois State Police.
The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of family.
