PEORIA, Ill. (25 News) – City leaders, family, and friends gathered near Peoria Stadium on Tuesday to help officially name a street after Peoria-born singer-songwriter, Liv Warfield.
Warfield graduated from Peoria Notre Dame High School as a track star, receiving a scholarship to attend Portland State University. That’s where she developed her passion for singing, eventually joining Prince on tour from 2009 to 2012.
Warfield has also received a Soul Train Music Award, and has been nominated for BET Best New Artist and NAACP Image Award’s Outstanding New Artist. In 2024, she received the golden buzzer from Simon Cowell on America’s Got Talent. .
On Tuesday, Liv Warfield Way was unveiled at the corner of Missouri Avenue and War Memorial Drive, in honor of the artist.
Warfield said she was overwhelmed with the honor and recognition.
“I remember that little girl who lived literally down the street, walking with her track cleats. I’d never think I’d be honored in this way, and I’m so grateful,” she told 25 News. “I love my city. It’s a dream realized that I never thought [would be].”
Warfield also gave advice to those with passions within themselves that they want to explore.
“To create was something …it was just a burning sensation inside of me,” she said. “Follow it. You just don’t know where life will take you.”
Warfield’s former Peoria Notre Dame track coach, John Cummings, also spoke at the event. He said the honor is well deserved.
“She has become such a great person. She does a lot of good things, and she’s had this success that she’s worked with all her years, so being here is an honor for me,” he said.
The singer-songwriter will return to the stage in Peoria on April 17th, performing with the Peoria Symphony Orchestra at the Peoria Civic Center.
