PEORIA COUNTY, Ill. — The Peoria County Sheriff’s Office has released new details regarding a daylong standoff in Princeville on Sunday that resulted in a man’s arrest.
The incident began around 3 a.m., when deputies were sent to a home just off W. Route 90 on reports of a male subject armed with a gun.
Deputies spoke with some people outside the home who reported a domestic disturbance involving the homeowner, identified as Brandon March, and a female victim still inside.
Sheriff Chris Watkins says witnesses said the situation escalated after March and the woman returned from a bar, which led to physical altercations and March arming himself with a shotgun.
After deputies tried multiple times to make contact with March and the victim without success, command staff activated the Central Illinois Emergency Response Team (CIERT) due to the presence of firearms and the domestic-violence allegations.
Watkins says detectives obtained a search warrant, and CIERT began a deliberate, safety-focused operation. CIERT negotiators, tactical personnel, and drone operators worked throughout the day to manage the scene.
Around 4 p.m., the CIERT’s efforts resulted in the safe removal of the victim and the peaceful arrest of Brandon March.
No injuries were reported at the scene.
