PEORIA COUNTY, Ill. — A multi-agency response team rescued a man from one of the lakes at Banner Marsh Monday evening, after he fell out of his kayak.
Sheriff Chris Watkins said in a Facebook post that the incident began around 7:00 p.m. when someone heard another person calling for help. They immediately contacted authorities.
Fulton County and Peoria County deputies responded to search the area around the lake. They found a man in the water, who was suffering from hypothermia and was unsure of how long he’d been submerged.
Timber Hollis Fire and Copperas Creek Fire also arrived on the scene. Copperas Creek responders launched a boat to reach the man due to a steep embankment and safely brought him to shore.
The man was taken to a local hospital by AMT.
The Peoria County Sheriff’s Office issued a special thank you to the citizen who called in and to all first responders, noting that their quick actions and teamwork saved the man’s life.
