PEORIA, Ill. – The project to convert traffic from one-way to two-way on two busy downtown Peoria streets is nearing completion.
One of the biggest milestones in the Adams and Jefferson conversion project, which started more than two years ago, was completed on Wednesday. Traffic on Adams between William Kumpf Boulevard and Walnut St. was designated as two-way.
Public Works’ Nick McMillion tells WMBD’s “The Phil Luciano Show” that the rest of Adams going two-way is not too far behind.
“If plans go accordingly and everything goes according to plan, the soonest Adams could be converted, the rest of Adams, from Kumpf down to Hamilton, from one way to two way traffic, is next Tuesday the 28th,” McMillion said.
McMillion says striping work is currently taking place on Adams. He says paving on Jefferson is expected to start this week, and says Jefferson’s conversion is expected to be finished by mid-May.
McMillion is also asking motorists to be aware of the changes when they occur, and to pay extra attention to the new directions, parking spots, and bike paths on both roads. He says police will increase their presence in the first few weeks to keep things moving after the conversion.
