PEORIA, Ill. — Gas prices in the Peoria area are continuing their upward trend, according to data from GasBuddy and AAA Illinois.
The average price of gas in Peoria has risen 4.6 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $4.23 a gallon on Monday, based on GasBuddy’s survey of 148 local stations. Prices in Peoria are 19.8 cents higher than a month ago and 90.6 cents higher than a year ago.
AAA Illinois reports the average gas price for the Peoria/Pekin metro area on Monday was $4.27 per gallon, while the state average price was $4.33.
The price difference between stations is wide: GasBuddy reports the cheapest gas in Peoria on Sunday was $2.99, while the most expensive was $4.49.
Nationally, the average price of gas has also risen 7.0 cents in the last week, averaging $4.04 on Monday, up 5.7 cents from a month ago and 94.3 cents higher than a year ago. AAA Illinois’ national gas price of unleaded on Monday was $4.11.
Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, warns that oil prices are climbing again due to “renewed geopolitical tensions” and that gasoline prices are “set to rise further this week”. He adds that many inland states, including those in the Great Lakes and Plains, “could see average gas prices climb to their highest levels since 2022”.
