PEORIA, Ill. – The Susan G. Komen More Than Pink Walk is happening in Peoria this weekend, and it’s now the only event of its kind in Illinois.
Organizers typically see over a thousand people participate, but without an event in Bloomington this year, the crowd could have an even wider reach.
Danielle Williams, development manager for the hometown affiliate, explains the event’s importance.
“It’s the 41st year that we’ve been in the community and people keep showing up. And, that speaks volumes as to how important this cause is to the community,” Williams says.
Between 200-300 breast cancer survivors are expected to take part in Saturday’s event at the Metro Centre.
“They have a morning of being surrounded by those that have gone through what they’re going through, or are going through it, and have a mentor in the process,” Williams says.
Money raised with Saturday’s More Than Pink Walk supports breast cancer research to find a cure, as well patients who’ve been diagnosed.
This year’s goal is to raise $250,000 in Peoria for breast cancer research and patient care.
The More Than Pink Walk steps off at 8 a.m. Saturday at Peoria’s Metro Centre, located at 4700 N. University Street.
Registration for the walk will be accepted through 8 a.m. To form a team, or to learn more, click HERE.
