Early morning explosion and fire damages Peoria hotel room

PEORIA, Ill. – There was an explosion and fire at a Peoria hotel early Tuesday morning.

Peoria Fire says someone was charging their E-bike batteries just before 3:30 a.m., when they heard the explosion, then found fire in their room at the OYO Hotel on N. Knoxville Avenue.

There were no injuries reported, but five people were displaced, and given other rooms at the hotel.

Fire Battalion Chief Steve Rada reminds everyone that Lithium-Ion batteries should never be left unattended when charging them.

Damage from the explosion and fire is estimated at $3,000.
