PEORIA, Ill. (25 News) – A new report from the Peoria Police Department shows changes in gun violence from Jan. 1 to May 31, with several categories trending up compared to the same period last year.
Gunshot victims increased 10% from 20 to 22. Gun-related murders rose 50% compared to this time last year, from two in 2025 to three so far this year.
The overall homicide count is four, up from three last year.
In 2024, there were 28 shooting incidents and 31 gunshot victims.
There are two more gunshot victims this year compared to last year, up to 22 from 20.
The youngest victim so far this year was 16 years old.
Fewer Black men and fewer Black women were involved in shootings this year. White men accounted for zero shootings last year and five this year.
The report shows changes in ShotSpotter alerts, rounds fired and the number of people hit by gunfire.
The department said tips from the community remain a key piece of investigation. The report shows police received nine tips in the past seven days, 57 tips in the past 30 days and 243 so far this year.
