LINCOLN, Ill. – The most violent tornado from Thursday’s severe weather has been rated as one of the strongest ever in central Illinois.
The National Weather Service says an EF-3 tornado rolled through rural Washburn for 19 minutes. At its peak, the NWS warned it as a tornado emergency.
The tornado touched down at 4:56 P.M., had estimated peak winds of 155 MPH, with a maximum width of 930 yards, and tracked for more than 11 miles while crossing the Woodford-Marshall County line.
An NWS survey says all walls from a log house collapsed, and damaged numerous roofs, trees, and crops.
There were no injuries reported in the tornado’s aftermath.
The EF-3 rating is the strongest Woodford County tornado since the 2013 Washington tornado, and the strongest Marshall County tornado since 1972.
