PEORIA, Ill. – One of Central Illinois’ biggest Independence Day traditions returns Saturday as thousands of people are expected to gather along both sides of the Illinois River for Choose Greater Peoria Red, White & BOOM! presented by i3 Broadband.
This year’s celebration is especially significant as communities across the country mark America’s 250th anniversary with live entertainment, food vendors, family activities and one of the nation’s largest fireworks displays.
If you’re planning to attend, organizers are reminding guests to plan ahead. A new clear bag policy will be in effect on the Peoria Riverfront, and attendees should expect security screenings before entering the event area. Officials encourage guests to arrive early to allow extra time to pass through security checkpoints.
Drivers should also expect heavy traffic before and after the event, along with road closures in downtown Peoria and East Peoria. Arriving early and planning parking ahead of time is encouraged.
With warm weather expected, attendees are encouraged to stay hydrated, wear sunscreen, dress for the heat and bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating.
The evening will conclude with the annual Red, White & BOOM! fireworks display over the Illinois River beginning at 9:30 p.m.
