PEORIA, Ill. – Heartland Health Services is hosting its 4th Annual Back-to-School Bash on Wednesday, July 8, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Wisconsin Health Center, 2321 N. Wisconsin St. in Peoria.
The free event is designed to help elementary school students and their families prepare for the upcoming school year by providing backpacks filled with school supplies, school and sports physicals, immunizations, health resources, and family-friendly activities.
Heartland Health Services’ Nicole Stephens says 500 backpacks will be given away on a first-come, first-served basis.
“It’s really tough when kids are going to school and they don’t have the right school supplies set up, they don’t have a good backpack…and they’re starting out with a school physical,” Stephens says.
Stephens says families will also have access to health and wellness information, community resource organizations, and services that support children and families throughout the region.
In addition to essential back-to-school resources, families can enjoy a bounce house, giveaways, and opportunities to connect with local partners dedicated to improving community health and well-being.
“Our Back-to-School Bash is one of our favorite community events because it brings together so many of the resources families need to start the school year strong,” Stephens says. “From backpacks and school supplies to physicals and immunizations, we want to help remove barriers and ensure every child has the tools they need to learn, grow, and succeed.”
The event is made possible through the support of community partners and sponsors. Gift of Hope Community Foundation is providing backpacks, Molina Healthcare and xFinity are donating school supplies, and Grimm’s, Inc. is contributing event T-shirts. Additional support is provided by Meridian, YouthCare, Central Illinois Friends, and OSF Dental.
Heartland Health Services encourages families with school-age children to arrive early and take advantage of the many resources and activities available throughout the afternoon.
